How about making a resolution for creating a "Complementary Standardized Universal Barter System"?
Generally, I'm speaking about a barter system covering the whole planet, solar system, galaxy or universe, in which every item would have a standard value, based on rarity and production speed (an equation is needed, but that can be solved easily... I think) and the place for barter will be a common place like a massive mall or such. It would NOT make money (source of evil) obsolete, instead it will just be an addition to the monetary system, but it would still be more interesting than trading with money.
Below are some problems encountered when using a typical barter system:
1. Double Coincidence of Wants:
Exchange can take place between two persons only if each possesses the goods which the other wants e.g., if a weaver needs shoes and he has cloth to offer in exchange he should not only find a cobbler who makes shoes, but find such cobbler who needs cloth and is prepared to give shoes in exchange for it. In this case, it was difficult to find such a person.
2. Absence of Standard Value:
Under barter system there was no measure of value. Even if two persons met together who wanted each other goods, they could not find a satisfactory equilibrium price. Under such conditions one party had to suffer.
3. Indivisibility of Commodities:
It was difficult to divide a commodity without loss in its value e.g., a man who wants to purchase cloth equal to half the value of his cow and other commodities for the rest half value of cow; he could not divide his cow.
4. Absence of Store of Value:
Wealth cannot be easily stored for future use in the form of commodities because they perish in the long run.
Here are the solutions when implementing the "refined" barter system:
1.This is no longer a problem, as the products you are giving will be stored away for another barter, while you recieve the products that you require.
2.Now there can BE a measure of value (mentioned above).
3.Any inequality when bartering could be signed up in an individual electronic tab of some sort, that will measure the differences (whether you're getting less than you gave or the other way around) and at some point, either give you some items free or it would confiscate some of your products, depending on whether the differences added up mostly to your disadvantage or advantage.
4.Well, now it can. There can be a massive, transcontinental storage system, that can provide for that. It can be even better if it is in space.
I would like all nations' opinions on this one. Also, I would like Stachland to consider it.
